Middle East conflict

War or Terrorism?

We understand that the current situation in the Middle East is deeply unsettling, especially if you have travel plans in place or loved ones in the region. Our thoughts are with everyone affected.

The situation is widely recognised as a war or armed conflict, rather than an isolated act of terrorism. Because of this, it’s important to explain how travel insurance responds in these circumstances.

Travel insurance is designed to cover unexpected events that affect you personally and meet the policy’s insured reasons for cancellation or disruption. However, it does not cover largescale events such as war or armed conflict, which can lead to airspace closures or airlines being unable to operate. As a result, claims that arise directly or indirectly from war, invasion, civil war or military action are excluded. In practical terms, this means that cancellations, delays or losses linked to the current conflict are unfortunately not covered by the travel insurance policy.

If your airline has cancelled or suspended your flight, we recommend contacting the airline directly to arrange a refund or rebooking, as these decisions and remedies sit with the airline.

If you are currently in an affected area, your safety comes first. Please consider contacting DIRCO for consular support and official guidance.

While the policy does not cover cancellations or travel disruption caused by conflict, emergency medical cover remains in place if you are in an affected country and need urgent medical treatment. If this applies to you, please contact us immediately using the emergency number shown on your policy.
